❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

Everything you need to know about learning Bangla with us.

Getting Started

Is BanglaFluent free to use? +
Yes — creating an account and accessing our core lessons, dictionary, flashcards, and travel/exam/work content is completely free. We may introduce optional premium features in the future, but the foundational learning experience will always remain free.
Do I need to know the Bangla alphabet before I start? +
No. Our Bangla for Beginners section starts from absolute zero, including a structured path for learning the Bengali script in your first few weeks.
How long does it take to learn Bangla? +
This varies hugely by individual effort, but most learners studying 20–30 minutes a day reach basic conversational ability within 3–6 months, and strong intermediate fluency within a year. See our Learn Bangla hub for a detailed breakdown.
I already speak some Bangla at home — where should I start? +
Heritage speakers should check out our Bangla for the Diaspora section, which is built specifically for people with existing spoken ability who want to develop formal reading, writing, and professional Bangla.

Account & Progress

How do I create an account? +
Click "Join Free" in the top navigation or visit our registration page. You'll need a name, email address, and password.
I forgot my password — what do I do? +
Visit the forgot password page and enter your email address. We'll send you a secure link to reset it (valid for one hour).
Does BanglaFluent track my learning progress? +
Yes — once logged in, your lesson completions, flashcard study history, XP points, and daily streak are tracked automatically and visible on your account dashboard.
Can I delete my account? +
Yes — please contact us via the contact form and we will process your deletion request promptly.

Flashcards & Dictionary

How do the flashcard decks work? +
Each deck uses a flip-card study mode: see the Bangla word, try to recall the meaning, flip to check, then rate your confidence (Again/Hard/Good/Easy). This feeds a spaced-repetition system that schedules reviews at the optimal interval for memory retention.
How many words are in the dictionary? +
We currently have over 200 carefully curated words covering 14 categories — greetings, family, food, travel, emotions, and more — each with example sentences, etymology, and audio-ready transliteration. We add new words regularly.
Can I search the dictionary in English or Bangla script? +
Yes — our dictionary search works with English meanings, Bangla script, or Roman transliteration.

Travel

Is the travel content specific to Bangladesh or also West Bengal? +
Our travel content is written primarily for Bangladesh, but the language and cultural guidance apply equally well to West Bengal and other Bengali-speaking regions, since Standard Bangla is mutually understood across all of them.
What should I do in a real emergency while travelling? +
Save our Emergency Phrases page to your phone before you travel — it includes the national emergency number (999) and critical phrases for medical, police, and safety situations.

Exams

Which exam should I prepare for? +
Visit our Exams Overview page — it maps every major Bangla examination (Dakhil, HSC, university admission, BCS, and more) and helps you identify the right one for your situation.
Are your exam materials based on real past papers? +
Yes — our preparation content, including the sample MCQs on our Mock Exams page, is built around analysis of real past papers and current syllabuses.

Technical

The site isn't loading properly — what should I do? +
